Since 1979, Benson Area Medical Center (BAMC), a community-owned nonprofit primary health care center, has served primarily the residents of Johnston, Harnett and Sampson Counties. BAMC was formed as a result of a grassroots community movement to address the shortage of physicians in southern Johnston County.
We currently have 49 full- and part-time employees, including three full-time family practice physicians, four full-time nurse practitioners, two physician assistants and a clinical pharmacist. We provide primary care, lab, x-ray, and clinical pharmacy services on site. BAMC serves over 11,000 patients and provides over 31,000 patient visits each year.
BAMC occupies a 15,000 square foot facility located at 3333 NC Hwy 242 N in Benson, NC. This facility was purchased and renovated in 2002 with a loan and a grant from the USDA-Rural Development. With completion of an expansion project in early 2011, we operate in 12,700 square feet of finished space. With an expansion in 2016 we completed the use of the building with larger conference/educational space and expanded lab space.
